Welcome to the website of Electrical Engineering Department at the King Fahd
University of Petroleum & Minerals. It is my real pleasure to introduce you
to the department.
Our mission is to produce first rate electrical engineers for the current
and long term future needs of Saudi Arabia. The technology scenario is
dynamic and we are preparing our graduates to handle rapid changes in the
state of technology. Training into self-learning and ability to think are
the two fundamental requirements for our graduates. |

The Electrical Engineering department at KFUPM came into existing along with
the establishment of the “then” University of Petroleum & Minerals in 1967.
The EE Department is one of the largest departments in the University. The
average number of students is approximately 1000, 10% of them are in the
graduate program. The department provides 2 four-year undergraduate programs
leading to
Bachelor of Science
in Electrical Engineering and
Bachelor of Science in Applied Engineering degrees. The graduate program
offers Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering besides the
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and
Master of Science in Telecommunication Engineering.
The department granted the first Master’s degree in the Kingdom in this
discipline in 1975. The Ph.D. program started in 1982 and, again, the first
Ph.D. offered in the Kingdom in this discipline was in 1986.
The department has about 55 full-time teaching faculty members who are
spread in 6 specialized disciplines (termed Groups). The Groups in the
department are: Energy Systems,
Communications,
Electronics,
Control Systems,
Electromagnetics,
Digital
Systems , and
Signal Processing. Additionally, there are
about 30 laboratories supported with a number of experienced technicians.
The goal of the department is to maintain excellence in teaching, research
and public services. Teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs
involves training the students to function effectively in a wide range of
engineering organizations. The department has very vibrant research groups.
Besides personal research, faculty members are involved in collaborative and
sponsored research with various organizations and industries. Some of the
major organizations through which faculty members participate in
collaborative research are KACST (King Abdul-Aziz City for Science &
Technology), KFUPM RI (Research Institute), and ECRA (Electricity and
Co-generation Regularity Authority); industries and utilities include SEC
(Saudi Electric Company), SABIC (Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Company),
and Saudi Aramco. Besides teaching and research activities, the department
is also active in providing services to the community in the form of
offering short courses, arranging seminars, symposia and technical
conferences.
I hope you will be able to get the required information about the department
by browsing our website. If you need any assistance in this regard, please
do not hesitate to contact us.
