The Department of Electrical Engineering has led the institutions of higher education in the Kingdom in granting the first Doctorate and Master degrees and in earning international recognition of its undergraduate program. The department has extensive computer and laboratory facilities which support both education and research. The faculty members conduct state of the art research in the areas of electronics, telecommunications, electrical power systems, control, and signal processing.

 

Areas of Specialization and Facilities

The department offers several areas of specialization, namely: energy and power systems, electronics, telecommunications, control systems, electromagnetics, digital systems and signal processing. The educational and research activities are supported by excellent laboratories in electric circuits, electronics, communications, digital systems, electromagnetics, fiber optics, power systems, electrical machines, power electronics, telephony, analog control systems, high voltage, and digital control systems. The training programs include a co-op program, a summer training program, and a capstone design project. The electrical engineering program achieves both depth and breadth in electrical and electronic engineering.

 
 

 

Research Groups

The Electrical Engineering department is a large department consisting of nearly 53 faculty members. The faculty members can be classified into six major fields which are:

Although some fields are very much related, a faculty member must join only one group to focus. The main objectives/activities of each group are the following:

  1. Enhance relation among members

  2. Identify one common subject or topic that is of interest to all members so everyone can participate in research and this topic can be the seed to establish a research group.

  3. Identify the problems in the group related to their needs and condition of the laboratories under the groups.

  4. Review the current books used and suggest new books.

  5. Modify the syllabus of the courses.

  6. Run internal seminars and presentations.

  7. Involve and invite both grad and undergrad students in the activities as well as EE club.

  8. Attract more graduate students to the field.

  9. Organize workshops.

  10. Sharing ideas and experience among themselves.
