KFUPM Email Best Practices

Information Technology Center recommends the following best practices for KFUPM Email. Users are encouraged to follow these guidelines to ensure efficient email performance.

  1. KFUPM email account offers SMTP, POP, IMAP, and Webmail access. Individual emails including attachments can be up to 5 MB in size. And KFUPM mail server can store your mailbox up to a maximum quota of 50 MB size. If your email quota is exceeded you are notified via automated email alerts. And in extreme cases when its size exceeds to the extent that it effect the server performance for all users,  your mailbox will be automatically archived to you Unix home directory and you will be sent an automated alert email with a web link with which you can access that moved mailbox via a Web Browser. Kindly note that Unix quota is flexible and starts with a default of 200 MB for faculty and staff and 100 MB for students.
  2. Configure your email clients (MS Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) according to ITC recommendations.
  3. ITC recommends you to keep your server Mailbox Low and within quota of 50 MB for best performance in accessing your emails.
  4. Regularly check spam site http://spam.kfupm.edu.sa
  5. You have the option of the following Webmail services
  6. Disable Email List subscriptions temporarily before leaving on vacation if possible.
  7. Verify Hoaxes by cross checking such message before forwarding. Hoax verification can be done by either of the two ways:

Kindly note that ITC is currently involved in a messaging and collaboration project which would soon increase the email quota from 50 MB to a much larger capacity and would be integrated with a multitude of value added collaboration features for KFUPM faculty, staff and students.

We wish you a pleasant email experience with KFUPM email services and look forward to ensure best quality of services. For any further assistance contact postmaster@kfupm.edu.sa
