Wellbore Instability

In the current climate of reservoir exploration and increased exploitation of the existing reservoirs in the world's sedimentary basins, costs of drilling and production are significant. As a major part of the cost linked with the exploitation of an oil field is associated with drilling, the total cost can be reduced significantly if the drilling cost can also be reduced. One of the most crucial aspects of drilling optimization is the reduction of downtimes caused by wellbore instability problems, especially in inclined and horizontal wells. Borehole instability can dramatically increase the cost of drilling and completing wells.
